Ingredients:

  • 1 package of 14oz extra firm tofu
  • 6 tbsps of olive oil
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp onion powder

Instructions:

How to Prep the Tofu

  1. Remove tofu from packaging and cut into cubes or strips. Add to a freezer bag or container and freeze overnight or until completely solid
  2. When ready to cook the tofu, either let it thaw out at room temperature or add it to a pot of boiling water, fully covered, for 15 minutes. Test if the tofu is thawed out by using a knife
  3. Once thawed out, use a kitchen towel to gently squeeze some of the excess water from the tofu. Add tofu to a bowl

Making the Blackened Tofu

  1. Combine all seasonings in a small bowl
  2. Drizzle 2 tbsps of oil over the tofu. Next, sprinkle in the seasonings and mix well to ensure each cube or strip is well seasoned
  3. Add 4 tbsps of oil to a non-stick skillet over medium heat
  4. Once the oil is hot (test it by adding a small piece of tofu), add the tofu cubes or strips to the skillet and cook on each side until browned
  5. Serve with your choice of sides
